The 5th Annual National Button Accordion Festival
2011 Button Box Festival News
By Ron Pivovar
Our National Button Accordion Festival Committee has started work for this year’s Festival which will be held in May. Our partners, The Bessemer Croatian Club in Bessemer, PA, will again host the event over Memorial Day Weekend of 2011. The specific days will be: Friday, May 27, Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29.
We are in the process of updating our website: www.nationalbuttonaccordionfestival.com during these weeks of January. Our 2011 Festival flier should be available for downloading by the time you get your January Polka Times issue. The flier has a lot of information on the festival as well as area maps and motel listings. We will also be adding excellent photos to the website taken at the 2010 Festival by Tim Cimperman.
There is good news for out-of-town Festival attendees. The Hampton Inn, a newly built motel, has opened just west of New Castle, PA on Route 224. The manager at the Hampton Inn has agreed to work with the Festival Commmitee and is now offering a block of rooms at a special Festival rate until May 1. The motel is located conveniently to many restaurants and stores and is the nearest motel to the Festival. They also provide a better-than-average breakfast in the motel lobby. The breakfast is included in the room price. Their phone number is: 724-656-0000.
Our National Button Accordion Festival is the direct successor of the Fontana Button Box Jamboree. The Fontana Slovene Button Box Club, the force behind the Jamboree, provided unselfish help and advice for us helping to get the NBAF off to a flying start over four years ago. With few exceptions our Festival follows their format and model closely in an attempt to continue the wonderful flavor and tradition of their Jamboree. It was a very special highlight of the 2010 Festival to have the Fontana Slovene Button Box Club present and playing last year. You just can’t beat seeing good friends and making music together. It is a wonderful part of life and it does not happen without genuine effort. Thanks again to the Fontana Slovene Button Box Club!
For more information on the Festival please visit our website mentioned previously. Or if you prefer to receive a flier by email or through the U.S. Post Office call: Ron Pivovar, 724-588-3786, or Paul Mirkovich, 724-0530, or Judy Adamczyk at 724-658-6790. For email contact: rpivovar@verizon.net for Ron or polish_princess@comcast.net for Judy. Have a Happy New Year with lots of accordion and polka music!
